The practice, in this site's own words
Enough of it to begin, or to understand why this community will not teach it. The session references are named so a reader can check them.
What it is
Meditation in this material is neither a state to be chased nor a technique to be graded. It is the discipline by which the mind learns to look at itself: silence that can be kept at will, entered deliberately, and returned from with something honest to say about what was there.
That definition is narrow on purpose. The material is asked about methods constantly, across a hundred sessions, and declines almost every time to hand over a method. What it does instead is name the prerequisite and the shape: you practise the retention of silence, and you examine yourself. Everything else is yours to work out, because it is your mind.
What the material asks for
At 5.2, early in the contact, the whole instruction is present: the prerequisite of mental work is silence of self at a steady state, kept when required; to begin mastering mental discipline, examine the self; and do not pick and choose among attributes. The three parts are one practice, and the third is the part most often skipped — the day’s charged moments are the material, and a sitting that accepts only the pleasant ones has refused the very tool it claimed to use.
At 49.8 Ra distinguishes two types of meditation and what each is for. The passive meditation of the cleared mind and the active visualization of the adept are not rivals, and neither is a personality upgrade. One opens the gate of receptivity; the other trains the inner eye after the gate is open. The material’s refusal to grade between them is the teaching: the question is what the mind in front of you needs now, and the answer cannot be borrowed from a list.
What a sitting is for
Our own account of the practice is that a sitting is an agreement with the day before it, not an escape from it. The day produces catalyst; the sitting is where it is worked with rather than carried forward. Readers who keep a short written account of what met them in the silence find the pattern fastest, and the essay in this library walks the practice itself.
None of it is mystical furniture. You need no posture deck, no app, and no amount of paraphernalia; a chair, a door, and the discipline to let the mind say its piece are the whole of it. What is asked for is regularity and honesty, and they are asked in that order.
What it is not
Not anesthesia, and not bypass. A stillness bought at the price of not hearing what the day said is concentration, and it comes back out with the posture. The point of the practice is a mind that can hold its own contents without being run by them, and nothing else measures it.
And not a substitute for the rest of the life. This community studies and practices together; individual healing, diagnosis, or crisis work is outside its charter and outside this page. A sitting that is asked to be therapy will become neither.
The material, in its own words
From the verified record, so a reader can check the page's claims against the source instead of trusting the page.
The prerequisite of mental work is the ability to retain silence of self at a steady state when required by the self. The mind must be opened like a door. The key is silence.
To begin to master the concept of mental discipline it is necessary to examine the self. The polarity of your dimension must be internalized. Where you find patience within your mind you must consciously find the corresponding impatience and vice versa. Each thought that a being has, has in its turn an antithesis.
Each of the two types of meditation is useful for a particular reason. The passive meditation involving the clearing of the mind, the emptying of the mental jumble which is characteristic of mind complex activity among your peoples, is efficacious for those whose goal is to achieve an inner silence as a base from which to listen to the Creator. This is an useful and helpful tool and is by far the most generally useful type of meditation as opposed to contemplation or prayer.
Visualization is the tool of the adept. Those who learn to hold visual images in mind are developing an inner concentrative power that can transcend boredom and discomfort. When this ability has become crystallized in an adept the adept may then do polarizing in consciousness without external action, which can affect the planetary consciousness. This is the reason for existence of the so-called White Magician.
Where it does work in this library

The silence that can be kept at will
This is the subject the community asks about most and the material answers least like a manual. It gives a criterion rather than a technique, two kinds of sitting rather than one, and a sequence that has to come first.

The other practices
Lucid dreaming
The dream is where the mind works without the day’s supervision. What the material offers for meeting it is not a dictionary of symbols but a single discipline of recall, kept immediately on waking.
Astral projection
The astral is the inner planes between sleeping and the gateway of death: real in the material’s account, graded by vibration rather than by species, and approached here with the one protection the material describes — which is not a technique.
